Well, Well, Well

well-well-well

I know we haven’t been paying any attention to this blog. I could write something every now and then here, but that would be kind of boring, wouldn’t it? I could share some of the strip’s scripts, but that definitely isn’t the same as experience as that of the graphic narration experience a comic offers.

And I don’t want to bore with with a lengthy, imageless post intended only to inform you of a simple, exciting fact.

Aidalia, the artist, will soon be on vacations and will be working on the comic, and an incredible drawing we might make available for you in some electronic format.

That’s it. thank you for reading.

Seeing As You’re Still Here…

Seeing as you’re still visiting this blog, I decided to take the opportunity to update you on the advancements regarding Life Sucks! So Have at It.

We haven’t updated in a while, you’ve noticed. That’s because we don’t want to share too much before the official launch of LS.

As of now, we’re working on a buffer of strips, trying to find a web designer that’ll create our site, and trying to come up with an advertising campaign. I’m also thinking about the different electronic offerings we’ll be dealing out to helpful, involved readers :D . These might include printable PDF poster files, wallpapers, and even bundles with extra art with writer/artist comments.

Expect to hear from us in a couple of months. Starting the next year, John, Angela, Arch and the rest of the crew will be making appearances every Monday, Wednesday and Fridays via your bandwidth.

It’s a Long Trip

Guess what. You get to glimpse at one of our finished strips today. I got a good response when I showed it to my friends, and I’m confident about yours. Click on it to see it in its original size.

its a long tripLSYeah. You liked it.

The Whole Bitchin’ Cast!

October 21st, 2009 by Thewissen

Ok, You get to see the whole cast, and the comparison of their sizes. The first time I saw this, I was really impressed, and I knew their heights and measures. Well, do not allow me to bore you with dull details. Here you go!

The Whole Cast

The Whole Cast

From left to right, we have Shadowgreen, John, Arch, Angela, Henry, Josephine, Arnold and Arthur. You can click on the image to have a look at the drawing in its original size.

You Don’t Know’em

SHADOWGREEN

Shadowgreen

The last character. This is Shadowgreen, John’s imaginary pet. In the next post, you get to see all the characters together, in a drawing comparing their sizes. Now, Shadowgreen is, in fact, imaginary, and John, along with Arch, are the only ones who can see her. Curiously enough, some of her actions have very real impacts in the world around her…

***

Here we go. I don’t have a lot to say about Arthur, to be honest. He’s John’s nemesis, if you will, and I really do hate him. It’s curious how I get to hate someone I created. I pretty much took all the aspects of humanity I hate and merged them into this son of a bi$%&.

***

Ok, starting today, you get to meet the characters you couldn’t meet because they were never drawn. We’ll star twith Arthur, the guy who enables John to start his professional path. I think his shirt says ’nuff ’bout ‘im. The first time John and Henry meet him is, in my opinion, hilarious. I actually feel bad because you guys have to wait to see it :P .

You’ve Already Met

All right! This is the last post regarding the characters you’ve already met. This is Arch. He’s John’s little pet. You won’t get to meet him until later on in the strip, but you won’t have to wait that much. Unfortunately, you didn’t get to meet Arch completed back when Omar was drawing him. I’m glad to say we’re making up for that.

***

OK! This is Henry! He is, by far, one of my favorite characters along with John. I can’t wait to start publishing the comic so you guys can get to know the character’s personalities better. For now, suffice it to say he’s trying to invent zombies.

***

And here you have Josephine. As of this moment, I’m trying to decide whether or not to post a little something extra in the next hours, now that you know the necessary characters to appreciate it. I don’t think you deserve it, though :P

***

Another day, another character. This time, I’ll leave you with Angela. Eventually, she becomes John’s girlfriend. Personally, I think she’s really really hot and cute.

***

You’ve already met most of them, back when Omar was in charge of character design and was about to become the strip’s artist. For reasons of his own, he decided he did not have time to stay on this project, but you already know that.

I’ll be updating this very same post several times until you get to meet all the characters in their newer versions. As some of you might know, we cancelled another project in order to work on this one. Life Sucks is still a pair of months away from becoming a formalized project, but we’ve made some incredible headway since Omar left our ranks.

I’ll stop boring you with dull details, and leave you with the strip’s hero first, as is customary. His name is Longtain, John Longtain. And in a pair of months he’ll be glad to be welcomed into your screen and make you laugh as best he can.

We’ve Been Quiet, We Know

It’s been a long time since we¿ve posted something on this blog. I’ll be leveling with you, folks, in the following paragraphs.

Omar, the artist that was designated to draw Life Sucks! (LS), has decided to leave the project. I understand he’ll be helping us still with web mastering stuff, but he’s won’t be a part of the creative team any longer.

This fact has affected me considerably, and I’m very doubtful about the course of action that we’ll be taking. For now, I’ll be presenting the LS project to a renowned enterntainment company. Hopefully, they’ll accept working with me and LS will move forward.

Unfortunately, if this is the case, we’ll have to cancel The Light and Darkness of One’s Heart (TLDOH), our other indpendently published comic.

Aidalia, TLDOH’s artist, is working on new character desgins and style for LS. We might be uploading them to this blog quite soon, depending on what happens.

Thank you for your attention.

See? I Told You!

see-i-told-you

I’m very sorry for the late update, but here I am to let you see something what I was talking about.

Remember how in this post I told you how sometimes a panel can change completely in the process of making the comic? Well, here’s the second version of the panel:

03-1v2There it is, quite a difference, huh?

Let me tell you a little something about myself here. Being an animation student, I have to learn what’s called “Cinematographic Language” (Or so I’ve been told). This means I need to understand what cammera angles work best in what situations.  What would look better and how the camera can affect the perception of the viewer in respect to the story and characters.

Knowing this, I always try to avoid the common mistake most webcomic artists make (specially in the beggining) which is to always use a plain side view of the scene with little to no variation for the rest of the strip / page.

All this knowledge, I hope, will help us bring you quility material for your entertainment.

Don’t forget to bring a friend with you next time!

e-bundle stuffs!

The Picture:

And John stands naked before Henry, Angela and Josephine in a gymnasium. We can’t see the entirety of his nakedness, as we stand behind him, close enough to only see his unclothed back. In front of him, Henry looks confused and nervous. Behind Henry, a little to his right, Josephine restrains a lostful, sex-hungry Angela who looks ready to assault John.

The Story

Like best friends all around the world, John and Herny disagree everry now and then. In this paricular occasion, Henry challenged John to a greek fight to settle the matter. John wasn’t sure what that was, so he turned to Wikipedia. It was tradition to engage in this type of fighting naked, it seemed. John, of course, is no one to go agaisnt tradition, and he presented himself ready to honor the ancient ways of the honored greeks.

How about it? The text under “the picture” subtitle describes a drawing you’ll be seeing in the PDF e-bundles. The text under “the story” subtitle is the narration of the events that led up to that moment.

Yes, I know. I want to see that picture too.

How it’s made: Sketching

Hi there, people of the world.

In today’s post I’ll share in some details of the process of making this webcomic.

As I said in my last post, the first step in my part of the process (being that, the illustration) is to read what Jean Paul has given me and pot it into images.

This’ll normally take more than just one attempt, and here’s the first attempt at this one.

strip 3_ panel 1_ sketch

Creating a comic, at least if it is to be done properly, will most probably require several rounds of trial and error. In the specific case of this panel, I already have a better image in my head which I intend on drawing tomorrow.

The new version, of course, is an improvement of the one I’m showing you. You, as I’ve stated many times before, must be willing to let go of what you’ve done, but still be able to learn from it, let it influence what you’ll do next.

In the end, the image you see above will have changed quite a lot, but the essence will remain and, fortunately enough, it’ll make you people laugh.
